His family confirmed the news to the German Press Agency, with "Kicker" being the first to break the story.

Coordinates was best known for his assistant coach role at Bayern Munich, working alongside Udo Lattek, Jupp Heynckes, and Giovanni Trapattoni. During this spell, he bagged an impressive four German championships in 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1990. His contributions didn’t go unnoticed as club president Herbert Hainer acknowledged, "Egon Coordes may not have been in the limelight, but his influence was great, and he significantly contributed to the successes in the '90s."

Coordes had a humble beginning as a footballer, spending time with Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart before embarking on his coaching journey in his hometown of Bremerhaven. While his stints as a head coach in the first and second divisions for VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV, and Hannover 96 were short-lived and less successful, he had his fair share of international coaching experiences in Austria, Switzerland, the Gulf region, and even Iran for a brief period in 1999.

Revisiting his playing days, Coordes made 50 Bundesliga appearances and scored once for Werder Bremen, and then he went on to play 139 matches and scored eight goals for VfB Stuttgart. His coaching career, in turn, was as diverse and extensive as his playing career, including victorious Intertoto Cup wins, memorable trophies, and a successful stint as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich.
