Mild Fall Weekend Before Winter Knocks - Bavaria braces for wild weather swings from warmth to snow this weekend
Bavaria is set for a varied weekend and start to next week, with temperatures swinging and precipitation expected. Meteorologists Dr. Karsten Brandt and Dominik Jung have forecast alternating weather patterns, including a cold snap on Monday.
The weekend begins mild and föhn-influenced, with temperatures reaching as high as 19°C (66°F) in Oberallgäu. However, a change is on the way. Rain will move in from the southwest overnight into Sunday, with temperatures dropping to between 1 and 7°C (34–45°F) on Monday.
Monday will be gray, wet, and blustery, with heavy snowfall in the Alps and showers elsewhere. Fresh northwesterly winds and storm-force gusts are expected in the mountains, making for a harsh day. Frost and icy patches will persist overnight into Tuesday, making for potentially hazardous conditions.
The weekend in Bavaria starts mild but turns colder and wetter by Monday. Heavy snow is expected at higher elevations, especially in the Alps, with the snow line dropping to 500–700 meters (1,600–2,300 ft). Drivers and outdoor enthusiasts should be prepared for changing weather conditions and potential hazards.
