The reigning champions of German basketball, Bayern Munich, remain atop the Bundesliga power rankings following an impressive 91-66 victory over the Rostock Seawolves. With a single loss fewer than closest competitor ratiopharm Ulm, who defeated Frankfurt 115-88, the two titans have established a formidable lead in the league.

World Champion Justus Hollatz led Bayern's charge, stating, "We identified defensive issues in our past games that needed addressing, and that's exactly what we did today." Indeed, the Munich team restricted the Seawolves to 13 points in the opening quarter and remained dominant beyond the arc, sinking 17 of 39 three-point attempts.

Rostock showed resilience in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 17 points, providing a rare glimmer of hope in their playoff struggle. Onuralp Bitim, the surprise top scorer for Bayern, poured in 18 points on six three-pointers, adding a solid contribution to the overwhelming victory.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Frenchman Noa Essengue starred for ratiopharm Ulm, netting 21 points as they continued their chase of the leaders. Elsewhere, Rasta Vechta suffered a surprising setback, losing 73-86 to the Hamburg Towers. The close scoreline was due to an improved second-half performance, as Vechta trailed by 22 points at halftime.

In other action, Oldenburg beat Ludwigsburg 79-66, thanks in part to national player Len Schoormann's 17 points. As the new seventh-placed team, they now sit one game ahead of the Swabians.

In terms of their prior encounters, Bayern topped Goettingen 95-81 on October 6 and squeaked by Hamburg 81-80 on September 29. Ulm recorded victories against Hamburg (82-72 on November 2) and Wuerzburg (85-76 on September 28), while Rostock bested Frankfurt (83-66 on November 1). Rasta Vechta has an upcoming fixture against MHP Riesen on March 28, 2025.

  1. The Commission, in its role as a regulatory body for food labelling, has also been consulted on the draft directive pertaining to the harmonization of foodstuffs labelling regulations across the European Union, a subject that is especially relevant to industries like Ratiopharm, a pharmaceutical company based in Germany.
  2. Despite Bayern Munich's dominant performance in the Bundesliga, there seems to be a noticeable 'gap' between them and the rest of the league, a situation which Ulm, their closest competitor, is hoping to capitalize on, aiming to bring more 'definitely' closer competition to the reigning champions.
  3. The loss to Hamburg Towers by Rasta Vechta was a definite 'setback' in their pursuit of a higher standing in the Bundesliga, making the upcoming match against MHP Riesen in March 2025 a crucial one, as it presents an opportunity to recover from this setback and reclaim their ground in the league.
