Hoopin' Ain't Easy: Adamson's Persistent Playoff Push in UAAP Season 87

In the bustling city of Manila, the Adamson Soaring Falcons are gearing up for another nail-biting playoff showdown, aiming to secure the final spot in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament's Final Four.

For the third consecutive year, Adamson finds itself battling for the playoff slots. This time, they'll be facing off against the UE Red Warriors at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, November 27.

With both teams tying at 6-8 in the elimination round, the winner of this 6:30 pm face-off will advance to lock horns with the league-leading La Salle Green Archers on Saturday, November 30.

After sealing their season's lifeline with a 69-55 win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the final match of the eliminations, coach Nash Racela expressed his team's resolve to perpetually navigate through the playoffs for a shot at the Final Four.

Two seasons ago, under the leadership of superstar point guard Jerom Lastimosa, the Soaring Falcons snatched an 80-76 victory over La Salle in their playoff for the fourth spot, setting up a semifinal bout with the eventual Season 85 champions, Ateneo.

Last year, despite one final opportunity to make it to the Final Four through a knockout, the Soaring Falcons succumbed to the Blue Eagles, 70-48. Now, against a struggling UE team that has lost its last five games after missing multiple chances to secure an outright Final Four slot, Racela anticipates a drastically different game come Wednesday.

Adamson and UE shared a season series, with the Red Warriors edging out the Soaring Falcons in their initial meeting due to a game-winning buzzer-beater by Wello Lingolingo. In their second encounter, Adamson rebounded with a low-scoring 45-37 triumph, thanks to the hot shooting of AJ Fransman and Matt Erolon.

Knowing that past performances won't repeat in playoff games, Racela highlighted the importance of proper preparation for his players. "When you enter the playoffs, when you step into a knockout game, everything that happened before doesn't matter," Racela said. "It'll be a different ball game, so you don't really know what to expect. It'll be different, but we'll work hard to get ready for the players."
