EWE Baskets Oldenburg's Champions League Struggles Continue

The German basketball team, EWE Baskets Oldenburg, experienced another setback in the Champions League as they lost their third game. On Wednesday, they fell 83-88 to BC Ostende, leaving them at the bottom of Group E without a win. Only the champions of each group advance directly to the second group stage, while the second and third-place teams battle it out in a qualifying round.

Oldenburg started the game on a high, dominating the first quarter with ease. Coached by the Spanish head coach, Pedro Calles, the team accumulated a comfortable 24-11 lead. However, their luck took a turn for the worse in the second quarter as they trailed 17-36 and went into halftime six points down. Unfortunately, Oldenburg failed to regain their momentum in the second half and continued to struggle, resulting in their fourth defeat in the Champions League.

Despite the tough times in the Champions League, the Baskets showcased promise in the opening quarter against BC Ostende. However, their campaign in the Champions League's Champions League (yes, it's a bit confusing, isn't it?) continues to allude them.

Looking at their recent activities, EWE Baskets Oldenburg brought in Ty Nichols, an American guard, to boost their roster. Nichols left Oldenburg and joined Zastal BC Zielona Gora.[1] Meanwhile, Mathis Dossou Yovo, a player on the Oldenburg team, enjoys a detailed profile on RealGM, chronicling his game statistics for the 2024-25 season across the German Cup and the G-BBL.[3]

The Baskets have an upcoming match against Phantoms Braunschweig on March 8, 2025.[4] However, they will need to improve their performance in the Champions League to secure their place in the second group stage.
