Basketball team Girona secures Argentine player José Vildoza for a year contract
Argentine Basketball Star José Ignacio Vildoza Shines with Boca Juniors and Prepares for AmeriCup
José Ignacio Vildoza, the 29-year-old Argentine professional basketball player, is making headlines once again. Currently preparing for the AmeriCup in Nicaragua, Vildoza has recently agreed to play for Bàsquet Girona in the Liga Endesa for the upcoming season.
Vildoza, primarily a point guard standing 1.91 m tall, has had an impressive career so far. He started his basketball journey at Club Maipú in Córdoba, Argentina, before moving to Deportivo Libertad Sunchales where he spent six years. From there, he joined San Lorenzo in 2017, where he won three Liga Nacional titles and two Liga de las Américas championships, as well as two Supercopa championships.
In the 2021-2022 season, Vildoza had a stint with Cibona Zagreb in Croatia, averaging 9.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Meanwhile, in his last season with San Lorenzo, he was elected MVP of the finals, recording an average of 14.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
Vildoza's tenure with Boca Juniors began in July 2023. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game over 38 official games. His performances were particularly outstanding in the finals, where he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, securing the team's Liga Nacional de Básquet championship. His decisive 19 points in Game 6 of the finals helped Boca clinch the title.
The sporting director of Bàsquet Girona, Fernando San Emeterio, considers Vildoza a player "with a lot of talent" and a guard who can play as a base. San Emeterio also praised Vildoza's maturity, stating that he is at an important moment in his career.
Before joining Boca Juniors in 2023, Vildoza played 119 official games with the team, scoring 1804 points, grabbing 553 rebounds, and dishing 447 assists. He helped Boca capture four titles and earned six individual awards during this period.
Vildoza's career is marked by strong leadership, consistent scoring, and solid contributions across points, rebounds, and assists. His recent championship run and Finals MVP award with Boca Juniors are testament to his abilities.
In the BCL Américas, Vildoza scored 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 28.2 minutes per game. He also achieved two third places in the Intercontinental Cup with San Lorenzo.
