Basketball squads from Crusaders clinch two victories in a Purple Day twin bill event
In an electrifying doubleheader at the Hart Center, the Holy Cross Men's and Women's Basketball teams put on a show against Boston University.
The men's team, led by President Rougeau, delivered a dominant performance, holding Boston University to a poor 35% field goal percentage. The team's win was their largest against a Division I team this season, with a final score of 72-52. Max Green, a freshman, contributed a team-high 18 points, while the team wore their purple uniforms typically reserved for road games.
Meanwhile, the women's team, under the guidance of interim coach Candice Green, netted a 60-47 victory. Meg Cahalan, a player on the team, scored a career-high 25 points, and Lindsay Berger added 12 points and 4 blocks. The women's team also forced 15 turnovers and had 6 blocks in the game.
The victories for both teams sparked school spirit and showed promise for their respective postseason chances. The Holy Cross Women's Basketball team finished the regular season in fifth place and is heading into the semi-finals of the Patriot League Conference Tournament. The Men's Basketball team will face Army this weekend at the Hart Center.
The success of both teams comes at an opportune time, as the 10th annual "Power of Purple" Giving Day took place at Holy Cross. The event aims to raise funds for student scholarships, faculty development, and campus improvements.
As we look ahead, the Holy Cross Women's Basketball team is searching for their third straight title. The team finished the regular season with a record of 18-11 overall and 11-7 in the Patriot League. The women's team sits at 8-3 in the Patriot League, good for second place.
With the postseason on the horizon, the Holy Cross Basketball teams are poised to make a strong run. Stay tuned for updates on their performances and the continued growth of the Holy Cross athletics programme.
