The Golden State Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga find themselves in a contractual stalemate, with Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, stating that the young player is prepared to accept the team's $7.9 million qualifying offer unless the Warriors improve their current offers. During the summer of 2022, the Warriors were the primary team involved in contract negotiations with Kuminga, offering him a three-year deal worth approximately $75 million, complete with a team option. Other teams, such as the Sacramento Kings, showed interest, but the Warriors remained the most active in securing Kuminga's services. They even attempted to convert their team option into a player option to assure his commitment.

However, the Warriors have declined to put a player option in any offer to Kuminga, despite his requests. Turner, Kuminga's agent, has suggested that if the Warriors want Kuminga to be a happy and significant part of the team moving forward, they should give him a player option in any contract. He believes that while giving Kuminga a player option may slightly reduce trade value, it would show respect and allow the team to focus on winning and helping Steph Curry.

The qualifying offer presented to Kuminga includes a no-trade clause. If Kuminga were to accept this offer, he would be committing to three seasons with the Warriors, with a guaranteed $48.3 million in the first two seasons. The deadline for Kuminga to sign the qualifying offer can be pushed back, according to Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.

The Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings have made the most aggressive moves in pursuing Kuminga this offseason. The Suns have offered Kuminga a contract worth between $80 and $88 million over four years, while the Kings have offered a deal worth between $63 and $66 million over three years. Kuminga has had the opportunity to meet with the Kings' general manager Scott Perry and head coach Doug Christie, as well as the Phoenix Suns.

Other teams have also expressed interest in Kuminga, potentially for future seasons. The Warriors have received multiple sign-and-trade offers, but are demanding at least an unprotected 2030 first-round pick and a young player without taking on any 'bad contracts.' As the deadline for Kuminga to make a decision approaches, the Warriors and Kuminga are in a tense standoff, with both parties hoping to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
