Basketball legends Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard are the main honorees for the Basketball Hall of Fame's latest induction ceremony.

In a glorious ceremony held in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 6, 2022, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed three distinguished basketball stars - Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, and Sue Bird.

Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star, has left an indelible mark on the basketball world. With a career total of 28,289 points, he ranks 10th in NBA history. Anthony's illustrious career includes three Olympic gold medals (2008, 2012, 2016), making him a formidable force both on and off the court.

Dwight Howard, a formidable presence in the NBA, has achieved remarkable milestones in his career. He ranks 10th in NBA history with 14,627 career rebounds and 13th with 2,228 blocked shots. Howard's contributions to the game were recognised with his election as a first-ballot member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Sue Bird, a trailblazer in women's basketball, holds the WNBA's career assists record of 3,234. A five-time Olympic gold medallist (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), Bird's influence on the sport is undeniable.

The ceremony was not limited to these three inductees. Other notable figures were also recognised. Maya Moore, who led the Minnesota Lynx to four WNBA titles (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017), was among them. Moore, who also won two NCAA titles at UConn and two Olympic gold medals, was inducted along with Sylvia Fowles and head coach Billy Donovan.

Billy Donovan, who led Florida to back-to-back NCAA titles (2006 and 2007) and has 502 college wins, was primarily inducted for his collegiate coaching achievements. He also recently took up the role as coach of the Chicago Bulls.

The 2008 US Olympic team, co-captained by Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, and Dwyane Wade, was also inducted. This team, which won the gold medal with an average margin of 27.9 points, was one of the most successful Olympic teams in history.

Miami Heat owner Micky Arison, who has owned the team since 1995 and presided over three titles (2006, 2012, and 2013), was also inducted.

Referee Danny Crawford, who officiated in over 2,000 regular-season games and 300 playoff games, including the NBA Finals in 23 consecutive seasons, was another inductee.

This year's Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction was a celebration of the game's greatest players, coaches, and contributors. The inductees' collective achievements serve as a testament to the enduring impact of basketball on sports and culture.
