Basel brings the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025
Get ready, folks! Basel is gearing up to host the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in 2025!
The music extravaganza will make its grand entrance on May 17th at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel. The announcement came from the authorities in Geneva on a Friday, following Nemo's triumph in this year's ESC, which took place in Malmo.
Switzerland hasn't taken the lead as ESC host country before, but it has been a part of the competition since its inception in 1956, with an impressive 64 participations as of 2024[1][2]. Interestingly, the first Eurovision Song Contest was also held in Switzerland, in Lugano, on May 24, 1956[4]. Switzerland secured the first win with Lys Assia's "Refrain."
This year, Zoë Më will represent Switzerland in Basel for the country's first solo hosting of the event. With Switzerland's enthralling music culture and the captivating vibe of Basel, this year's ESC promises to be a night to remember!
