In the world of Major League Baseball (MLB), players are known for their superstitions and attention to detail, with every move on the field carefully calculated. This meticulousness extends off the field as well, as evidenced by the growing trend of MLB players adorning themselves with Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra jewelry.

For over 20 years, Gabe Arik, co-owner of Happy Jewelers, has been supplying MLB players with custom necklaces and gemstone-laden chains, attributing the new trend to a blend of superstition and style. One such player who has embraced this luxury "lucky charm" is Miguel Rojas, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop, who can rarely be seen without his onyx Alhambra necklace and a selection of earrings, including onyx Sweet Alhambra studs and mother-of-pearl Sweet Butterflies.

The Alhambra collection, inspired by the four-leaf clover and Moorish quatrefoil motifs from the Alhambra Palace in Spain, offers a variety of stones such as onyx, malachite, carnelian, and mother-of-pearl. Each stone adds a distinct aesthetic and symbolic value. Onyx, for instance, is favored for its protective qualities and sleek black look, making it popular among players like Rojas. Malachite offers vibrant green hues, symbolizing transformation and protection, while carnelian is associated with energy and motivation, and mother-of-pearl provides an iridescent, softer look and is linked to purity and calming energies.

These variations allow players to personalize their lucky charms while making a refined fashion statement. The pieces retail for around $9,000 to $11,000, reflecting both their luxury status and appeal to athletes accustomed to high-end accessories.

The trend has been further fueled by Fort Lauderdale jeweler Major League Jewelers, who helped introduce the Alhambra line to MLB players. Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero and Texas Rangers outfielder Joc Pederson are among those who have joined the trend, with Pederson wearing an onyx Alhambra necklace to his introductory press conference, a malachite Alhambra necklace for his official team portrait, and a mother-of-pearl Alhambra necklace at a July game against the Angels.

However, it's important to note that the science behind Power Balance and Phiten accessories, previously marketed to MLB players for supposed performance enhancement, has been questioned. In contrast, the appeal of the Alhambra collection lies in its elegant design, symbolic meaning of luck and protection, and the opportunity for players to express their individuality while making a refined fashion statement.
