Barys Secures Top-Tier Goalie
Barys acquires Nikita Boyarkin, with one-quarter of hockey players in the league being affected by the deal.
A captivating turn of events in the world of hockey has led to the acquisition of one of the most promising goalies on the international stage - Nikita Boяркин. Boявkin, who recently excelled at the World Ice Hockey Championship, has signed up with the famous capital club, Barys.
Boяркиn hails from the city of Karaganda, and his rise to prominence was unexpected as he had been playing with the lesser-known team, Saryarka, before this move. However, his impressive performance during the World Championship in Latvia has earned him a spot with the prestigious Kapital Club. Boяркиn boasted a save percentage of 2.27%, making him one of the most reliable goalies in the tournament, which caught the attention of scouts from three NHL clubs, as well as representatives from the KHL and some European teams.
In exchange for the highly talented Boяркиn, Barys will be welcoming four other players: goalkeeper Denis Karataev, defenseman Nikita Klychenko, and forwards Andrey Yakovlev and Sayan Danyar from the Nur-Sultan team.
Boxing Rivalries Past and Present
In the world of professional boxing, rivalries can make or break careers. One such rivalry that stood the test of time is between Kazakhstan's Gennady Golovkin and his brother Maxim Golovkin. While they never stepped into the ring to duke it out, their childhood matches left an indelible impression.
My brother Maxim was a better boxer than me! In our childhood days, he was stronger, more powerful, learned things faster and, most importantly, was more disciplined. We competed in the same weight class. At 15 and 16 years old, we both reached the finals of the Kazakhstan Championship, and everyone wanted to know who was stronger, but it was unimaginable for our parents that we would fight each other. The first time, Maxim withdrew from the final to let me become the winner. The next year, I did the same.
It's worth noting that the Golovkin family had four brothers but sadly, two of the elder brothers, Vadim and Sergei, passed away under mysterious circumstances while serving in the military. Gennady and Maxim are twins and unbeknownst to many, the world champion's brother is 15 minutes younger than his famous relative.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Visits Kazakhstan
Recently, the famed Dagestani MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov made an appearance in Almaty as an honorary guest at the Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC) 37 tournament. During the press conference, Nurmagomedov shared his thoughts on a variety of topics, including his victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 and providing some advice to the legendary boxer Gennady Golovkin.

Nurmagomedov explained that during the fight with Gaethje, he had an opportunity to break his opponent's arm, but chose to stop short, as Gaethje's parents were in attendance. Moving on to GGG, the popular UFC fighter suggested that he retire from professional sports.
"He has a family, a business, and his whole life is still ahead of him. Boxing is a more traumatic sport than MMA. If in MMA you can have joint injuries, in boxing you can have head problems. You can have one more fight, earn some money, so to speak, for old age, and then retire. That's my personal advice," Nurmagomedov expressed his opinion.
Babayan's Coaching Move to Moscow
The past week saw a stir in the information space after the 41-year-old Kazakh coach, Grigory Babayan, sensationally joined the coaching staff of the Russian football team, CSKA. In the Russian championship, he will now assist the acting head coach, Alexei Berezutsky, who recently replaced Croatian Ivica Olić in this position.
Before accepting the attractive offer from Moscow, Babayan consulted with the akim of Kostanay region, Arkhimed Mukhambetov, to whom he had promised to work towards elevating the position and performance of Kostanay's Tobol team. This is not the first time a Kazakh coach has joined the coaching staff of a top Russian football team. In the past, renowned coaches such as Kurban Berdiyev ("Rubin", "Rostov"), Vladimir Nikitenko, and Voit Talgayev (both - "Terek") have held similar positions at elite Russian football clubs.
Tour de France Prize Fund Determined
The organizers of the world's most prestigious cycling race, the Tour de France, have released the prize money details for this year's event. The total prize fund for Tour de France 2021 is set to be 2,228,450 euros, an increase of 1,450 euros compared to the previous season. This year, the winner of the Tour de France will receive a maximum of 500,000 euros.
Each stage victory will yield a bonus of 11,000 euros. Interestingly, last year the highest prize money was earned by UAE Team Emirates (UAE) - 623,930 euros, followed by the Dutch team Jumbo-Visma with 359,460 euros, and the American team Trek-Segafredo with 165,150 euros. The Kazakh team "Astana" ranked 8th with 75,680 euros.
- The recent acquisition of Nikita Boяркиn, a top-tier goalie in ice hockey, by Barys might remind one of the exciting transfer news one might often find in football.
- Interestingly, just like Boяркиn excelled unexpectedly to secure a spot with the prestigious Kapital Club, Gennady Golovkin unexpectedly let his brother Maxim win their childhood matches, setting an unconventional precedence.
- Khabib Nurmagomedov, during his press conference in Almaty, hinted at a more cautious approach in sports, likening boxing to a more traumatic sport than MMA, much like how Boяrкиn's performance in the World Ice Hockey Championship necessitated a trade-off from his previous, lesser-known team, Saryarka.
- The total prize fund for Tour de France 2021 is 2,228,450 euros, a significant amount that rivals the salary gained by Boяркиn for his move to Barys.
