Baroness Michelle Mone Demands Apology Over 'Vendetta' Claims Against Chancellor
Baroness Michelle Mone has accused Chancellor Rachel Reeves of fueling a 'government vendetta' against her and her husband Doug Barrowman. Mone calls for a formal apology from the Prime Minister and for Reeves to refer the matter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Reeves reportedly responded 'Too right we do' when asked about allegations of bias towards Mone and PPE Medpro in the £122 million sterile gowns dispute.
The PPE Medpro case, involving alleged breach of contract during the Covid pandemic, concluded its High Court hearings in July. The DHSC rejected two substantial no-fault settlement offers from PPE Medpro, including a complete remake of 25 million gowns or a £23 million cash settlement. Justice Cockerill is expected to hand down her ruling on the DHSC's claim against PPE Medpro in the next few weeks.
Mone claims her social media has been flooded with threats and abuse following Reeves' remarks. She argues that Reeves' comment provides evidence of political interference in the neutral legal process. Mone also accuses Reeves of presiding over 'economic failure' and claims Labour's leadership is misleading the public on its tax plans. She believes Reeves' comment confirms the government's bias against her and will use it in their legal case.
The High Court case between the DHSC and PPE Medpro is ongoing, with a ruling expected in the coming weeks. Baroness Michelle Mone has expressed concerns about political interference and bias, calling for a formal apology and referral to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has not directly addressed Mone's allegations but has been reported to have said 'Too right we do' when asked about the bias claims.
