In the latest Barmer Sinus Study, young Germans reveal a myriad of anxieties. Environmental concerns dominate, with climate change leading the pack at 47%, closely followed by environmental pollution at 46%. The looming threat of species extinction completes the top environmental worries, garnering 36% of responses.
Interestingly, poverty and migration rank high on their list of fears, with 33% expressing concern in both categories. Energy crises and economic crises are serious worries for 31% and 30% respectively, while residential issues and restrictions on personal freedoms bother 28% and 27% respectively.
One in five Germans under 30 fret about diseases and pandemics, while 19% are concerned about job prospects. Education and AI anxieties affect 17% and 19% respectively, reflecting the digital age we live in.
Despite these apprehensions, the study reveals a glimmer of hope. A staggering 79% of young people express optimism about their future, an increase of four percentage points from the previous year, although still below 2021 levels. Moreover, 81% report being satisfied with their lives, a slight increase from the previous year.

The study also reveals a trend of girls expressing more concerns across multiple categories compared to boys. Overall, young people in Germany are generally optimistic about their personal lives but deeply concerned about the world's future and various societal and environmental issues, reflecting a complex and nuanced outlook.
