Marco Reus Set to Become Borussia Dortmund's Brand Ambassador

Marco Reus, the former captain of Borussia Dortmund (BVB), is reportedly on the verge of becoming the club's brand ambassador after he retires from professional football. The negotiations between BVB and Reus are currently ongoing, with the club already in talks about an engagement in this non-playing capacity.

Reus moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2024 and won the MLS title in his first season there. His current contract with the club runs until the end of 2026, and a one-year extension is said to be a mere formality. However, whether Reus will return to Dortmund as a player or continue his career in the MLS remains open.

If Reus does decide to return to Dortmund, he is expected to sign an official contract as the club's brand ambassador after his playing career comes to an end. As a brand ambassador, Reus would represent BVB at major events such as draws and sponsorship meetings.

Reus has expressed strong personal ties to Dortmund and has shown openness to returning in some role. He told "Sport Bild" shortly after his move that he would like to return to the club in some capacity. BVB CEO Carsten Cramer hinted at this possibility in an interview with the "Ruhr Nachrichten" in April.

The details of Reus's role and responsibilities as a brand ambassador for BVB have not been disclosed. However, it is speculated that his ambassador role might include helping Dortmund extend its brand internationally, potentially including his time in the U.S.

The report about Reus's potential role as a brand ambassador for BVB was made by "Sport Bild". It is important to note that Reus's former contract with BVB was not renewed, and he moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2024.

The defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy is not having a great start to the new season, which might influence Reus's decision about his future in the MLS. As of August 2025, Reus will stay with LA Galaxy to possibly finish his playing career, while preparing to take on a Borussia Dortmund brand ambassador role after retirement, rather than immediately returning to Dortmund as a player.
