Barcelona's upcoming Champions League venue remains unclear.
Barcelona, the Spanish football powerhouse, is facing an uncertainty over their UEFA Champions League home ground, as the renovation of the iconic Camp Nou stadium continues to delay. Manager Hansi Flick is yet to learn the exact venue for the club's Champions League encounters, with the possibility of the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc, being used as an alternative. The UEFA regulations require a 10-15 days notice before the first home Champions League match of the season, and as the Camp Nou is still under renovation since June 2023, Barcelona may have to defer their initial matches to another venue. The South Goal and Main Stand of the Camp Nou are yet to be completed, and these are crucial for satisfying UEFA regulations. The club has received an initial approval from the Barcelona City Council in July, but the necessary clearance is still pending. The delay in the Camp Nou's construction has caused disappointment among fans eager to return, and Barcelona may be allowed to play a few games elsewhere to buy some time to finish the construction. The possibility of playing at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, the RCDE Stadium (belonging to Barcelona's city rivals Espanyol), or Girona's Estadio Municipal de Montilivi has been floated. Barcelona have been drawn against Paris Saint-Germain, Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympiacos, and Copenhagen in the Champions League. It remains probable that Camp Nou will host games of some kind across the Champions League this season, but it depends on UEFA's willingness to work with Barcelona. Meanwhile, the Estadi Johan Cruyff, Barcelona's academy ground, has already hosted their first home game of the season. The Camp Nou, ranked at no.7 in the list of the best stadiums in the world, is scheduled to host Getafe on September 21, but it's unconfirmed if the ground will be ready. Despite the challenges, Barcelona remains one of the favourites for the Champions League this season. The club will be hoping for a swift resolution to the Camp Nou construction issue, allowing them to play their home matches at their traditional ground and boost their title prospects.
