Barcelona's potential acquisition of Marcus Rashford faced a setback due to intervention from the British rock band Oasis before his anticipated departure from Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford Edges Closer to Barcelona Move Amid Financial and Administrative Hurdles
Marcus Rashford, the England forward who currently plays for Manchester United, is on the brink of a season-long loan move to La Liga champions Barcelona. However, the transfer process has been fraught with challenges due to financial and administrative issues, rather than any connection to the band Oasis or Manchester Airport's private jet terminal.
The financial constraints faced by Barcelona, due to salary cap rules, have been a significant hurdle in Rashford's registration in La Liga. An audit of Barcelona's finances, which further complicated the registration process for new signings, including Rashford, has been delayed.
Despite these obstacles, Rashford's potential move to Barcelona is gaining momentum. The loan move, if it goes through, would mean Rashford would no longer be part of the Manchester United first-team set-up.
Rashford had a decent spell at Aston Villa last season, making 17 appearances, scoring four goals, and teeing up six more. His impressive performance at Aston Villa has not gone unnoticed, as Manchester United are reportedly interested in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Meanwhile, the private jet terminal at Manchester Airport was fully booked by Oasis and their fans, causing an issue for Rashford's travel plans. However, this did not directly impact the delay in his transfer to Barcelona.
Oasis, known for their support of Manchester City, completed a series of homecoming concerts at Heaton Park. Singer Liam Gallagher had a jet on standby to travel to his home in the south of France, which could have potentially been used to accommodate Rashford's travel plans had the airport terminal not been fully booked.
In the end, Rashford and his representatives had to drive 80 miles to East Midlands airport due to Manchester Airport's private jet terminal being fully booked. Rashford eventually departed from Manchester and arrived in Barcelona on Sunday evening to finalize the transfer deal.
Rashford was ranked at no.77 in a list of the 100 best footballers in the world by a certain website at the end of 2023. His current valuation by Transfermarkt stands at €50million. Despite his uncertain future at Old Trafford, Rashford is not part of Ruben Amorim's plans for the 2025/26 campaign at Manchester United.
