Barbra Streisand Pays Tribute to Robert Redford Following His Passing
Robert Redford, the charismatic and intelligent actor known for his iconic roles in films like 'The Way We Were' and 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,' passed away on Monday at his home in Utah. He was 89 years old.
Cindi Berger, Redford's spokesperson, confirmed the news of his passing. Numerous colleagues, friends, and fans paid tribute to him online, expressing their condolences and reminiscing about his illustrious career.
Barbra Streisand, Redford's co-star in 'The Way We Were,' took to Instagram to express her grief. 'My heart is heavy with sadness at the loss of Bob Redford,' she wrote. 'He was a magnificent human being, charismatic, intelligent, intense, and one of the greatest actors of all time.'
Streisand played the role of peace activist Katie Morosky in 'The Way We Were,' while Redford portrayed the privileged writer Hubbell Gardiner. The film, directed by Sydney Pollack, was a box office success and is considered one of the greatest love stories in American cinema, according to Variety.
Streisand described working on 'The Way We Were' as thrilling, intense, and pure joy. She went on to earn an Oscar for her performance of the title song from the film. Redford, a two-time Oscar winner, was part of a new and exciting Hollywood in the '70s and '80s, according to author Stephen King.
Streisand and Redford had different backgrounds, but they tried to learn more about each other, similar to their characters in 'The Way We Were.' Streisand praised Redford in her Instagram post, saying, 'He was a true gentleman and a brilliant actor. I will miss him terribly.'
Meryl Streep also expressed her condolences, saying, 'One of the lions has left us.' Streep and Redford worked together on the film 'Out of Africa,' for which Redford won his second Oscar.
Redford's death occurred surrounded by those he loved. His passing marks the end of an era for Hollywood, and he will be remembered as one of the greatest actors of all time.
