"Barbara, dubbed 'The Cruel,' kickstarts the new year with a festive celebration"
The town of Dillweißenstein celebrated the resumption of a cherished tradition on New Year's Day, marking the 66th anniversary of the Dillweißenstein Fasching parade. The grand event, which had been on a three-year hiatus, saw the participation of local personalities, market vendors, and cannoneers.
At the heart of the celebration was Sir Belrem, or Jörg Müller, who beat the drum to usher in the new year. Müller, accompanied by his partner, Maite Sancho, led his entire entourage in a lively procession through the town.
A key highlight of the celebration was the use of the "Cruel Barbara", a cannon that fired six shots in honour of the occasion. Unfortunately, we do not have further details about this historic piece.
The Belrem Guild, a traditional organisation in Dillweißenstein, played a significant role in the festivities. They were invited by Frank Daudert, owner of "Goldis Stadl", to join the celebration on the Pforzheim market square. The Guild returned to "Goldis Stadl" for this special New Year's Day event.
The tradition of welcoming the new year with cannon shots is deeply rooted in Dillweißenstein's history, and it takes place annually. This year's celebration was no exception, as the town came alive with the sound of the "Cruel Barbara".
Looking ahead, the Belrem Guild will once again lead the grand anniversary parade on Fasching Tuesday, February 13, 2018, starting at 14:11. The location for this year's parade, like previous years, will be in the heart of Dillweißenstein.
As the town prepares for another year of celebrations, the Dillweißenstein Fasching parade continues to be a cherished tradition, bringing the community together to usher in a new year with enthusiasm and celebration.
