The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in Mandaue City, Philippines, have been postponed from December 1, 2025, to November 2026. This decision was made following the signing of Republic Act 12232 by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Aug. 13, 2025.

The extension of the term for current BSKE officials and the change in future term lengths to four years were key factors in the decision. Barangay captains in Mandaue City have expressed their support for the postponement, citing the opportunity it provides to continue and properly implement their programs and projects.

Dante Borbajo, president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) and Barangay Canduman captain, welcomed the extension, stating it provides more time to carry out ongoing programs and projects. Cambaro Barangay Captain Maricar Cañete agreed, noting that two years would have been too short to properly implement projects that often require advance planning.

Mantuyong Barangay Captain Julius Caesar Lumapas Areopagita emphasized that the postponement does not offer any special advantage to those currently in office and that barangay operations will continue as normal. Opao Barangay Captain Nixon "Jojo" Dizon added that regardless of the election date, their main priority remains public service.

The postponement also aligns with the national government's focus on other elections, such as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region parliamentary elections. However, this reason was voiced from the presidential side rather than directly by the barangay captains.

Not all residents are pleased with the postponement. Some have expressed disappointment, hoping for a change in local leadership. Despite this, the barangay captains remain committed to delivering honest and effective service during the extended term.

Borbajo, in particular, called on all barangay leaders in Mandaue City to use the additional time to deliver honest and effective service. Dizon, for his part, reiterated that public service remains their main priority.
