**Ex-Convict and Prolific Author, Dorian Trevor Sykes, Accused of Bank Robberies in Detroit**

Dorian Trevor Sykes, a 41-year-old author known for his nine published novels since 2011, has found himself at the centre of a high-profile bank robbery case in Detroit.

### Recent Bank Robberies in Metro Detroit

On March 6 and March 12, 2025, Sykes is accused of robbing two banks in the Detroit area, with the latest incident occurring at a Chase branch in Lathrup Village. In this incident, Sykes allegedly presented a withdrawal slip demanding all the money and threatening to kill everyone in the bank.

### The Pursuit and Arrest

Following the robbery at Lathrup Village, Sykes was pursued by police, who managed to track him to the MGM Grand Detroit using his cellphone. During the pursuit on March 20, 2025, Sykes fled in a Rolls-Royce, but he was later apprehended. The details of his arrest are currently unclear.

### Criminal History

Sykes' criminal history dates back to at least 2002, when he and two co-defendants stole almost $200,000 during an armed raid on a Fifth Third Bank branch. In 2005, Sykes was convicted of bank robbery, using a firearm during a crime of violence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and perjury, and was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison. He was released in February 2024.

On August 13, 2019, Sykes was arrested at MotorCity Casino, but the details of these charges are not publicly known. He was also sentenced to five more years in prison for crimes committed in 2019.

### Connection to Crime Novels

While Sykes is known for his crime novels, there is some confusion about whether he is the same individual who writes these books. Another individual named Kyland Sykes is known for writing crime novels, and it is unclear if the two are related.

If convicted, Sykes faces up to 20 years in prison. He remains in custody until his trial, which has not yet been scheduled.
