Bangladesh's Jatiya Basanta Utsab returns with music and mystery in 2026

The Jatiya Basanta Utsab, a traditional spring festival, will return in 2026 on February 14 at the Bangladesh Military Museum. The event kicks off at 7:30 am with live music, though organisers have not yet confirmed details on venue changes or attendance limits. Previous editions faced adjustments due to political and health concerns, but this year's plans remain under wraps for now.

The festival has a history of shifting locations. In recent years, it moved from Dhaka University to the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon. This change came after government restrictions on large gatherings during national elections.

The 2026 programme will open with classical music by students of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay. Past editions featured a mix of performances, including singers like Bijon Chandra Mistry, Anima Roy, and Biman Chandra Biswas. Dance troupes such as Spandan, Kathak, and Turongmoy Dance Theatre also took the stage, blending traditional and contemporary styles.

Despite uncertainties, the event continues to mark Pahela Phalgun, the first day of spring in the Bengali calendar. Organisers have yet to release further details on safety measures or whether past restrictions will affect this year's celebrations.

The 2026 Jatiya Basanta Utsab will begin at 7:30 am on February 14 at the Bangladesh Military Museum. While the lineup and format follow tradition, questions remain about venue capacity and public access. Updates on any changes are expected closer to the date.
