Bangladesh's 'Amar Shonar Bangla': A Century of Pride and Unity

Bangladesh's national anthem, 'Amar Shonar Bangla', has a rich history. Written by Rabindranath Tagore, it's an ode to the motherland, translating to 'My Golden Bengal'.

Tagore, who also penned India's national anthem, composed 'Amar Shonar Bangla' in Bengali in 1905. The lyrics first appeared in a literary magazine that September. The melody, however, is based on a song by Gagan Harkara, arranged by Samar Das.

In 2014, Bangladesh made history by setting the Guinness World Record for the most people singing their national anthem simultaneously. A staggering 254,537 voices united to sing 'Amar Shonar Bangla'.

Though written over a century ago, 'Amar Shonar Bangla' was officially adopted as Bangladesh's national anthem in 1971. It remains a powerful symbol of unity and pride for the nation.
