Bangladeshi garment workers join global *Make Amazon Pay* protests for fair wages

Bangladeshi garment workers took to the streets in Dhaka as part of the global Make Amazon Pay movement. The solidarity rally, held near Black Friday in late November 2025, highlighted demands for better wages, safer conditions, and union rights. Organised by the Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation (SGSF), the protest aligned with worldwide calls for Amazon to address labour issues in its supply chain.

The demonstration in Bangladesh formed part of a broader campaign led by UNI Global Union, with General Secretary Christy Hoffman at the helm. Workers and activists gathered to challenge Amazon’s labour practices, particularly in garment factories supplying the retail giant. Nazma Akter, president of SGSF, accused the company of enabling low wages, unsafe workplaces, and restrictions on union activities.

The Dhaka protest added pressure on Amazon to reform its supply chain practices. SGSF’s demands included signing the Accord, raising wages, and respecting workers’ rights. Without a response from Amazon, labour groups have pledged to continue their campaign for systemic change.
