Bangladesh shooter suspended as federation cracks down on misconduct allegations

The Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation (BSSF) has suspended national team shooter Kamrun Nahar Koly on disciplinary grounds, following accusations of misconduct during a national team training camp. Meanwhile, the federation has also taken action against BSSF joint secretary Haider, after multiple shooters raised concerns about his behavior in the sports team. Koly's suspension comes after she and other shooters publicly spoke out about suspected sexual harassment by Haider. The BSSF has given her three working days to respond before deciding whether the suspension becomes permanent. Both the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Olympic Association, Koly's employers, have been formally notified of the action. Haider's role as joint secretary had already caused controversy, despite protests from female shooters, he was appointed to the position and became a key decision-maker in the sports team. His removal was ordered by the National Sports Council (NSC) under the NSC Act 2018, even before an investigative committee completed its report. The NSC cited his lack of cooperation with the probe as the reason for his early dismissal. The ministry of youth and sports has since formed a new committee to investigate further irregularities linked to Haider. Earlier, the search committee had refused to recommend his name for the ad hoc committee, reflecting ongoing tensions within the federation. Koly now faces a deadline to defend her position, while Haider's removal remains in effect. The NSC and BSSF continue to address the wider issues raised by shooters, with investigations still underway. The outcome of these probes will determine the next steps for both the athlete and the federation.
