Bangladesh launches subsidised food scheme to aid families during Ramadan

The Bangladeshi government is rolling out a new initiative to support families during Ramadan. In Tangail, subsidised milk, eggs, and meat will be sold from Saturday to ease financial strain on low and middle-income households. Officials have also confirmed there are no shortages of essentials hoodie across the country.

A dedicated market monitoring cell has been set up to keep prices stable throughout the holy month. The government aims to prevent artificial shortages and price hikes caused by syndicates in the food and agriculture sectors. State Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku assured the public that regular supervision would tackle these issues.

The Tangail programme marks the first of its kind in Bangladesh, with no other districts reporting similar schemes. Despite this, authorities have stressed that stock levels remain sufficient nationwide. The subsidised sales are part of broader efforts to ensure affordability for key food during Ramadan.

The initiative in Tangail will launch this weekend, offering discounted rates on essential food items. With ample supplies confirmed and monitoring in place, the government expects stable market conditions throughout Ramadan. The focus remains on preventing price manipulation and supporting vulnerable families.
