David Kaff, Beloved 'Spinal Tap' Actor, Passes Away at 79

David Kaff, the British actor and musician best known for his role as Viv Savage in the iconic mockumentary film "This Is Spinal Tap," has passed away at the age of 79. Kaff's bandmates from Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom announced his death on Facebook last Friday.

Before his acting career took off, Kaff (born Kaffinetti) had a moderately successful musical career as a member of Rare Bird, a British progressive rock band. Their most famous song, "Sympathy," was a hit in 1970, reaching Number One in France and Italy that year.

In 1992, the post-Fish Marillion also had a hit with "Sympathy." However, it was Kaff's portrayal of Viv Savage in Spinal Tap that gained him his most prominent recognition in the entertainment world.

In an interview with BAM in 1991, Kaff expressed a fondness for his character, stating, "Have a good time... all the time," a memorable line from the original film. He also expressed a personal connection to Viv Savage, stating that he played the character close to his heart, just a little bit dimmer.

Despite his fondness for the character, Kaff did not participate in Spinal Tap's subsequent reunions. It is also confirmed that he will not be featured in the upcoming sequel, "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues."

Kaff passed away peacefully in his sleep. His bandmates described him as having a kind word and a quick wit that could make you laugh despite sad circumstances. They will surely miss him dearly.

As we remember David Kaff and his contributions to the entertainment industry, his legacy as Viv Savage in Spinal Tap will live on, inspiring laughter and entertainment for generations to come.
