Festivities Kick off in Colorful Schiefbahn: The Jungschützenmaie Arrives
Step into Schiefbahn, where the vibrant decorations signal the commencement of a four-day extravaganza. As the clock strikes six on Friday evening, the Jungschützenmaie, a traditional symbol, takes its place. Followed by a musical performance by the Sebastianers on the Hubertusplatz at 8 pm, the evening promises to be a true Schiefbahn celebration. From 8 pm onwards, join the party at the festive tent on the Jahnplatz!
Saturday starts with a delightful Plätzkonzert at 2:30 pm in the inner courtyard of the Hubertusstift. Senior citizens, including many longstanding shooting brothers, are particularly included in the festivities, as explained by Brother Master Michael Klein. At 3 pm, a memorial mass for the living and deceased members of the brotherhood will be held in the parish church of St. Hubertus, with the Men's Choir Eintracht 1896 Schiefbahn providing a fitting musical backdrop.
At 4:30 pm on Saturday, the King's maypole is erected at the Residenz am Bolzplatzweg before making its way to Hochstraße. The pre-parade begins here at the tribune at 5:30 pm, while an approximately 900-strong contingent of shooters with their guests gather for a ball led by the party band "FarbTon" from 8 pm.
The day of rest arrives on Sunday, beginning with the contemplative commemoration of the dead on the Bruchstraße Friedhof at 8:45 am. By 9:30 am, the Wachparade brings life back into the atmosphere as the king couples present and take charge of the front of the regiment in a full-scale march down Hochstraße. Traditionally, the password is shared with officers in secrecy. Post the march, an honorary concert with the Musikkorps 78 BSW takes place at 11 am, where deserving comrades are honored.
The afternoon is marked by the march of the large shooting regiment through Schiefbahn, followed by the impressive King's Parade from 3:30 pm. Afterwards, the King's Gala Ball with "FarbTon" takes place in the tent.
Monday promises more excitement, with the new Frühschoppen starting at 10 am featuring a performance by the Musikkorps 78 BSW. A highlight is the march of the Jungschützen department of the brotherhood. The King's Shot at 11 am generates widespread anticipation, as participants vie for a chance to succeed King Jürgen Marx after the Kevelaer procession.
At 5 pm, the shooters embark on their last march through Schiefbahn, followed by the King's Parade where old and new king's houses are showcased on the tribune. The parade is given a festive character by the fanfare procession, music show, and the grand military tattoo. The Schützenfest concludes with the King's and Shooter's Ball in the tent on the Jahnplatz at 8 pm.
