Band Spotlight: Brujoz, the Local Musical Collective
In the heart of the tri-county area, a new grunge-inspired punk band named Brujoz has made its mark. The band, consisting of Brandon (singer and guitarist from Avenal), Darian (drummer from Reedley), and Mikey (bassist from Fresno), values collaboration and the DIY community, both on stage and in their recording process.
Brandon started Brujoz as a solo project after his first band, Desert Bums, fizzled out during the pandemic. The band's name, Brujoz, comes from the Spanish word for warlocks, brujos. Brujoz's music is heavily influenced by '80s and '90s punk and hardcore, '90s grunge, and early '00s garage rock. They record and produce all their music themselves.
Brujoz's next show is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, at Strummer's. Aspiring musicians looking to follow in their footsteps are encouraged to dive into the local music community by finding their preferred music genre, practicing, attending local shows, and networking with like-minded individuals, as advised by Darian, a veteran of the Fresno music scene since 2015, who has played in over 10 local bands.
Brandon hopes Brujoz's music can reach many people and they can travel and do shows in different cities and states. The band is currently working on a five-track EP, with an expected release date next summer. Brujoz members have a history of playing in other projects and are active members of the local music community.
