Randerin' It Rock in Vienna's Gasometer

Mike Rutherford, Genesis legend and frontman of Mike and the Mechanics, recently brought the house down at the Gasometer in Vienna. Despite a borked hip, he still managed to set off almost as many hits as with Phil Collins. The concert was a whopper, with chart-toppers like "Silent Running", "The Living Years", "All I Need is a Miracle", and "Over My Shoulder". Even some classic Genesis tunes, like "Land of Confusion", "Invisible Touch", and "I Can't Dance", made it to the setlist.

But this ain't no ordinary gig, no sir! The show kicked off with "A Beggar on a Beach of Gold" and wrapped up with "Word of Mouth", fulfilling the greatest hits theme of the current best-of CD, "Looking Back - Living the Years". Rutherford had to lean on a keyboard stand due to his hip, but 1,500 fans (mostly seated, mind ya) warmed up soon enough. "Breakdance is off the menu tonight!"

Now, the show effects were kept simple, just an oversized "light curtain". But the music, it took center stage. The first half was a tad too foamy, but things picked up maelstrom-style with an unplugged medley around "Nobody Knows", "Everybody Gets A Second Chance", and "Follow You Follow Me". Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar, the third and fourth vocalists of the "Mechanics", weren't half bad either.

And let's not forget Nic Collins, son of the legendary Phil Collins, behind the drums. He received extra applause. As an encore, they added hits from Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, and Jimi Hendrix. The whole shebang marks a strong start to one of the year's loudest concert weeks, with The Lumineers, Bilderbuch, and Rainhard Fendrich lined up at the Stadthalle.

As for the deets on this gig, they're scarce. But if you're keen on Mike and the Mechanics, keep an eye on their socials or website. They've been tearing it up on their recent tours, with their "Looking Back - Living the Years" tour in Germany and Austria. And that's all she wrote, folks! Rutherford's broken hip didn't stop him from putting on a killer show. So, here's to Mike, the Mechanics, and broken hips that don't slow us down!
