Berlin (dpa) - German rapper Badmómzjay ponders over the rapid surge of musicians on platforms like TikTok, expressing her thoughts in a candid manner. "Ain't everything that goes viral my cup of tea, it ain'tabout the kind of beats," shares the 22-year-old native of Brandenburg. For her, the trend is just a matter of preference and taste.

However, she highlights the brighter side of it. "There are tunes that go viral that make me smile---they’re getting all the love they deserve," states the musician, born Jordan Napieray, praising US rapper Doechii, whom she believes is a fantastic artist pushing boundaries with her exceptional lyrics.

More Power to Women in Rap

Badmómzjay is hopeful that this new wave of viral success could propel the women-in-rap movement forward. "It's a game-changer when ladies get promoted, when female rhymes are worth hearing," she says, appreciating the growing visibility of women in the rap scene.

She's enthused by the recent blend of styles in the genre, noting, "Lately, I've been hearing a whole heap of different sounds, all unique, all inspiring."

Fellow performers Badmómzjay, Doechii, and numerous others will take the stage at the Hip-Hop Festival "Splash!" in the Iron City of Ferropolis near Gräfenhainichen, Saxony-Anhalt, in early July.
