Baden-Württemberg records seven confirmed tornadoes in 2025’s average season

DWD: More Tornados in the Southwest - Baden-Württemberg records seven confirmed tornadoes in 2025’s average season

Baden-Württemberg has witnessed several suspected and confirmed tornadoes this year, with an average number of events compared to previous years. The German Weather Service (DWD) has recorded a total of 42 tornadoes nationwide so far in 2025.

The region has seen several suspected tornadoes, including in towns such as Rottweil, Leutenbach, Lenzkirch, and Schwäbisch Hall. Five tornadoes were confirmed over land, with events occurring in Donaustetten on June 4, Zwickgabel and Schönmünzach on June 15, Rißtissen on July 29, and Siebersbach on October 23. Notably, two waterspouts were observed over Lake Constance at the end of July, which were later classified as tornadoes.

In total, seven tornadoes have been confirmed in southwest Germany this year. The 2025 tornado season has been average, with more cases than 2024 but fewer than 2023. This year's activity is in line with the long-term average for the region.

While Baden-Württemberg has experienced an average year for tornadoes, with no confirmed events in 2026 according to the DWD, residents are reminded to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines during severe weather conditions.
