Baden-Württemberg experiences weather havoc as autumn commences.

In the heart of Germany, the region of Baden-Württemberg is currently battling persistent heavy rain and thunderstorms. According to the German Weather Service, these weather disturbances are expected to persist, with rain showers and thunderstorms easing only by mid-August.

The southern part of the state, particularly cities around the Black Forest region, has been hit the hardest. Cities like Stuttgart, Heidelberg, and Karlsruhe have experienced notable rainfall in recent months. For instance, Stuttgart recorded a high of 20 rainy days in July 2025, while Heidelberg and Karlsruhe have reported occasional heavy rain events and varying daily rainfall amounts.

The area between the Black Forest and Bavarian Forest, south of the Danube, is noted for an increased risk of heavy rainfall and local flooding. This suggests that cities in or near this area may have some of the highest rainfall totals in Baden-Württemberg.

Interestingly, the cities in Baden-Württemberg with the highest rainfall in recent years tend to be those in the southern part of the state. This is not surprising, as summer is the wettest time of the year in the south, with an average of 126 rainy days per year. In contrast, the west of the country experiences a high amount of rain, with an average of 132 rainy days per year.

While Augsburg, a city in the north, holds the record for the most rainy days among German cities, followed closely by Munich, Dortmund, and Stuttgart, the rainfall in the north and east of the country is more evenly distributed.

The persistence of rain in Baden-Württemberg has resulted in many days without sunshine, making the weather chaos a significant concern for residents. Unfortunately, this weather chaos has also led to a tragic event - a deadly train accident due to the adverse conditions.

However, there is a forecast for a slight temperature increase from August 5 to 7, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the rain. Residents of Baden-Württemberg should still expect more heavy rain in the near future, as the weather chaos shows no signs of abating.

In 2024, the Saarland had the highest rainfall nationwide, while Berlin had the least. Interestingly, Bayern and Baden-Württemberg had the most sunny days nationwide in 2024, indicating that even in years with high rainfall, there can be periods of clear weather.

As the weather continues to challenge the residents of Baden-Württemberg, they are urged to stay safe and follow weather advisories. The local authorities are working diligently to manage the situation and ensure the safety of the community.

Other regions in Baden-Württemberg might also face increased rainfall and local flooding due to the weather-forecasting predictions, similar to the Black Forest area. Residents should remain vigilant and stay updated on the weather forecast to prepare for potential heavy rain events.
