Bad Hersfelder Festspiele present new 'Parzival' - Bad Hersfeld Festival’s 75th Anniversary Opens with *Parzival* in Historic Ruins

The Bad Hersfeld Festival will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2026 with a grand opening production, Parzival oder Die Suche nach dem Heiligen Gral, marking its German premiere in the historic Stiftsruine. Director Michael Schachermaier leads the adaptation of Wolfram von Eschenbach’s 13th-century epic poem, bringing the medieval tale to life in a striking setting.

Schachermaier personally selected actor Thieß Brammer for the title role of Parzival. The production will debut on June 26, 2026, marking Brammer’s first appearance in the medieval abbey ruins. He has described the role as particularly demanding, yet he is eager to embrace the challenge.

The 2026 festival opens with a production that combines literary heritage and modern direction. Brammer’s performance as Parzival will launch the anniversary celebrations, while Schachermaier’s vision promises a fresh interpretation of a medieval classic. The premiere is set to be a highlight of the festival’s 75-year history.
