The Minnesota Vikings are set to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, with a significant change in quarterback positions. Due to an injury to their starter J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz will take the helm as the backup quarterback makes his second start for the Vikings.

Wentz, who grew up in Bismarck, ND, rooting for the Minnesota Vikings, will make his team debut as the starting quarterback for the Vikings on Sunday. The 30-year-old has started for five other NFL teams and owns a career record of 47-46-1.

The Bengals, who currently stand at 2-0, will also be starting their No. 2 quarterback due to an injury to their star Joe Burrow. Burrow's injury, turf toe, is expected to sideline him for several months. In his absence, the first-round pick Shemar Stewart is unlikely to play against the Vikings due to an injured right ankle. Jake Browning, the Bengals' No. 2 quarterback, has appeared in 13 games in parts of three seasons, making seven starts in place of an injured Burrow in 2023, posting a 4-3 record.

The Vikings will be without key offensive linemen Ryan Kelly and Justin Skule, who are out due to concussions. This could potentially open up opportunities for running back Jordan Mason, who could play a significant role in the Vikings' game plan with Jones' absence.

On the offensive side for the Vikings, All-Pro teammate of Wentz, Justin Jefferson, has seven catches for 125 yards and a touchdown this season. Ja'Marr Chase leads the Bengals in receptions with 16, yards with 191, and has scored one touchdown. Chase Brown leads the Bengals in rushing with 90 yards and a score.

The game will be a challenging one for both teams, with the Bengals having won their first two games of the season, with a 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns and a 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Vikings, on the other hand, are yet to secure a win this season, with their last game ending in a 24-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The game will be played in Minneapolis.

As the two teams prepare to face off, Wentz has been preparing behind the scenes and is feeling physically and mentally ready for the game. Coaches have been helping Wentz learn the Vikings' offense as quickly as possible. With both teams facing injuries and challenges, the game promises to be an exciting one.
