Backup QB strategy for the Steelers reportedly excludes Will Howard.
Bootin' Up with the Pittsburgh Steelers: Pre-season Drama Reigns** 🏈
It's football season, baby, and the Steelers' QB dilemma ain't showing any signs of settling down. Rumors of Rodgers and Cousins in town swirl around the Steel City, but who'll ultimately be nabbed to lead the charge?
Insider scoop suggests the Steelers' backup QB battle ain't all peaches and cream, either. Steelers whiz Gerry Dulac tossed a couple of curveballs on "The Dan Patrick Show," suggesting Will Howard might not claim the backup throne just yet. Rumor has it, the front office is eyeing another seasoned vet to huddle up behind Mason Rudolph.
"Even if that's the case, Dan, [the Steelers] will go hunting for some other veteran quarterback," shared Dulac. "I really don't think they are going to depend on a sixth-round pick, even though I like Will Howard in that spot. I really don't think they are going to depend on a rookie backup. Their history has always been to lean on two quarterbacks with NFL starting experience on their roster."
If Rodgers or Cousins ain't in the Steel City's future, Dulac hinted at some potentialOff the board candidates that could bob up. Notable QBs with gaming credentials that could step in to bail out the Steelers include Carson Wentz, Teddy Bridgewater, and Desmond Ridder.
Other quarterbacks with backup experience include CJ Bethard, Tyler Huntley, Jeff Driskel, Joe Flacco (who just snagged a deal with the Browns), and perhaps even the elusive Geno Smith.
As we stand now, the Steelers' QB roster consists of Rudolph, Howard, and Skylar Thompson. So, who'll be the one to don the black & gold and step up to the plate? 💭🤘🏈
