The film is based on Wong Yi’s novel Back to the Qin Dynasty, which gained widespread fame after its 2001 TV adaptation. Before its official release, the movie already generated over RM1 million in pre-sales, signalling strong audience interest.
The trailer alone reignited nostalgia, drawing fans eager to see the original cast—Louis Koo, Raymond Lam, Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok, and Joyce Tang—back on screen together. It is also the first Chinese-language film of 2026 to reach this milestone in the country. The story’s emotional pull and the cast’s reunion have made it a true cinematic event in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and China. Many viewers have cited their deep connection to the original series as a key reason for the film’s overwhelming reception.
