Axel Milberg Honoured for Playing Iconic 'Tatort' Detective

In a heartwarming ceremony, actor Axel Milberg has been bestowed with the Schleswig-Holstein Order of Merit and the honorary police commissioner title. The 69-year-old, who played Commissioner Klaus Borowski in the Kiel-based 'Tatort' series, was recognised for his significant contribution to the popular crime series and his dedication to the city of Kiel.

The honour, presented by Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU), came on the recommendation of CDU politician Sabine Sütterlin-Waack and Prime Minister Günther. Sütterlin-Waack also appointed Milberg an honorary member of the police in recognition of his long-standing commitment to the series and the city.

Milberg, a native of Kiel, found a unique way to satisfy his longing for home through the role of Borowski. He expressed his delight and gratitude at the honour, stating that he felt a deep sense of responsibility towards everyone who came to film at the Kiel Fjord to show them how beautiful it is there.

The 'Tatort' crime series, with Milberg as Commissioner Borowski, has been a staple of German television for over two decades. Milberg's last case as Borowski aired in March, marking the end of an era. However, he has put away his detective files and is no longer actively working as a commissioner.

As Milberg steps away from the role of Borowski, he leaves behind a lasting legacy. His dedication to the series and the city of Kiel has been widely acknowledged, and his honour is a testament to his impact. The people of Kiel and the 'Tatort' community will undoubtedly miss him.
