Confessed Axe Murderer Stands Trial in Kassel: Defendant Admits to Killing Former Roommate

Ax-Wielding Suspect, Age 29, Admits to Homicide in Kassel - Ax-wielding killer, age 29, admits guilt in Kassel crime scene

In a shocking turn of events, the defendant in the axe murder trial taking place at the Regional Court of Kassel has admitted to the grim deed. On the first day of the trial, he confessed to killing his previous roommate with an axe, followed by the dismemberment and concealment of the body.

The prosecution alleges that the 29-year-old Bulgarian, now in their crosshairs, carried out a premeditated murder by stealthily ending the life of the homeless 26-year-old victim while he slept, sharing a room with the defendant at the time. Post-murder, the body was reportedly hidden near the Hercules monument and the former Bundesgartenschau (Buga) grounds along the Fulda. The defendant was apprehended in Kassel approximately six weeks following the heinous crime.

The prosecution suspects that the defendant was consumed by jealousy and wrongly believed his partner was having an affair with the victim. His previous displays of jealousy were not unheard of, reports suggest.

Defendant: "Under the influence at the time of the crime"

The defendant provided a slightly different account of the events. According to him, the attack with the axe occurred not on the 7th, but rather in the early hours of the 8th of June. Far from sleeping, the victim was allegedly involved in a heated argument that led to the crime. The defendant, who was assisted by an interpreter, stated that he feared for his life and struck the victim's head with the axe twice.

The murder weapon had been stored in the room due to feelings of insecurity, the defendant admitted, citing fear of prosecution as the reason for his initial failure to call emergency services and for locking the room. He also revealed that he had consumed alcohol and various drugs such as cannabis and fentanyl in the hours preceding the crime.

Drowning in Regrets

Following the crime, the defendant initially delivered pizza. On the night of the 8th to the 9th of June, he transported the body to the Buga grounds but, owing to fear of identification, severed the head and extremities and hid them near the Hercules monument.

His attorney, in a statement, observed that the defendant deeply regrets the crime. They had been close friends for years, having known each other for roughly two to three years and lived together for some months.

Additional Charges

In addition to the murder charge, the 29-year-old is also being questioned for causing serious bodily harm. It is alleged that he stabbed another man with a knife in January 2024, leading to life-threatening injuries. The prosecution has tied the incident to a dispute over drug consumption.
