Awards Ceremony: Lady Gaga Tops Nominees in MTV Video Music Awards
The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are gearing up for another exciting event, set to take place on September 7 in the U.S. state of New York. This year's awards show promises to be a spectacle, with a host of talented artists vying for the coveted Moon Person trophies.
Since its inception in 1984, the VMAs have been a platform for celebrating the best in music video production and artistic expression. This year is no exception, with a diverse range of nominees across various categories.
Leading the pack is Lady Gaga, who has 12 nominations, followed closely by Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar with 11 nominations each. The Weeknd and Rapper Kendrick Lamar are also nominated seven times, while artists like Charli XCX, Bad Bunny, Doechii, Jelly Roll, Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, and Miley Cyrus have also secured spots on the nominees list.
The top category, Video of the Year, features a fierce competition among Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, Rosé & Bruno Mars, Sabrina Carpenter, and The Weeknd. Interestingly, some of Bruno Mars' nominations are for the joint song "APT." with singer Rosé.
Notable collaborations can be found throughout the nominations, with Bruno Mars teaming up with Lady Gaga for the ballad "Die With A Smile". Lady Gaga, who released her seventh studio album "Mayhem" in March, is also nominated for Video, Artist, and Song of the Year awards. Her album's hit song "Abracadabra" is also in contention.
Last year, Taylor Swift walked away with 7 awards at MTV's music awards. This year, she is among the nominees, but the full list of categories and nominees for the 2022 VMAs is yet to be officially announced.
The MTV Video Music Awards trophies are unique, featuring an astronaut figure holding an MTV flag. The awards ceremony has always been a highlight of the music industry calendar, and this year promises to be no exception. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards!
