Fortunately, the Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports that these beloved brands are set to make a reappearance as early as this week.

The root cause of this java drama was a drafty negotiation dance between heavyweights in the retail world, namely Rewe and Edeka, and the coffee conglomerate JDE Peet's, who happen to own these iconic brands. After hours of lively discussions, these negotiations have finally culminated. For consumers, this shake-up could mean paying a tad more for those affected goods.

Edeka expressed their customer-centric concerns, "In the interest of our patronage, we had no choice but to stomach an unjustified price hike. Thus, it's hardly an accord, but rather a coerced truce."

Meanwhile, Rewe declared, "Coffee will continue to be readily available, and there's no foreseeable reason for this situation to change."

A representative from JDE Peet's shed some light on the situation, "We've reached a consensus with all trading partners. The hike in raw coffee prices, primarily due to severe weather conditions in major coffee-producing countries, has been the main catalyst." The company aims to allocate only a portion of the surge in costs to the consumers.

A few supermarkets have been informing customers via signage at the coffee aisle: "Dear valued customers, we regret to inform you that items from manufacturer Jacobs (Senseo) are temporarily not in stock. We apologize for any inconvenience." Runs on the brand left retailers unable to replenish their stocks during the negotiations. However, the tide is turning with resumed supplies on the horizon.

Coffee prices for consumers have noticeably escalated over the past few years. In 2024, Kaffeepads and -kapseln cost a whopping 25% more than they did four years ago, while Bohnenkaffee has been about 23% pricier. Statistical figures from the Federal Statistical Office substantiate this trend.
