Awaiting that inaugural victory in the Bundesliga for the Union women's team

In a closely contested match at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion, 1. FC Union Berlin's women's team experienced their first watch in the Bundesliga, losing 3:2 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The first half of the match saw Bayer 04 Leverkusen take a commanding 2:0 lead, with goals scored in the 3rd and 21st minutes. Dina Orschmann managed to pull one back for Union Berlin, scoring her first Bundesliga goal in the 27th minute to make it 1:2. Despite conceding early, Union Berlin showed resilience and created several opportunities to equalise before halftime. Tomke Schneider came close on two occasions, hitting the post in the 35th minute and having another chance later in the half that just missed the mark. The second half was a more even contest, with both teams creating chances. Union Berlin continued to press for an equaliser, but it was Bayer 04 Leverkusen who extended their lead in the 61st minute, thanks to a goal from Carlotta Wamser that made the score 2:3. Union Berlin refused to give up, and in the 87th minute, Schneider scored a consolation goal for the home team. However, it was not enough to secure an equaliser, and the final whistle blew with Bayer 04 Leverkusen taking the victory. With the defeat, Union Berlin now sit in 8th place in the Bundesliga table, while Bayer 04 Leverkusen move up to 3rd. Union Berlin's next match is at home against SGS Essen, who are also still seeking their first win, on Saturday at 12:00. Coach Ailien Poese will be looking for a response from her team as they look to bounce back from their first watch. Union Berlin will be hoping to build on their opening day draw against fellow promoted side 1. FC Nürnberg, where they played out a 1:1 stalemate.
