AvtoVAZ Tests Paid Car Subscription Amid Struggling Russian Auto Market

Russian carmaker AvtoVAZ is testing a new paid subscription service for its vehicles. The move comes as the company faces challenges in a struggling auto market, with CEO Maxim Sokolov highlighting 'pessimistic trends' in early 2026.

The subscription model will allow up to three drivers per vehicle, with an annual mileage limit of 30,000 kilometres. Customers will pay a monthly fee of 39,990 rubles, rising to 43,990 rubles from 20 April 2026.

The package covers essential services, including third-party liability insurance (OSAGO), comprehensive car insurance (KASKO), and routine maintenance. It also includes seasonal tire changes and satellite-based security monitoring. Sokolov pointed to broader industry difficulties, noting a drop in auto lending. He attributed this to recent tax policy changes and stricter credit approval rules.

The subscription plan aims to offer a bundled service for drivers while addressing market pressures. AvtoVAZ has not yet revealed how many customers have signed up or whether the model will expand beyond the trial phase.
