Avonworth remain undefeated following a significant triumph over Thomas Jefferson
Avonworth High School Football Team Continues Dominance with Fourth Consecutive Win
The Avonworth High School football team is on a roll, extending their winning streak to four games following a convincing victory against Thomas Jefferson, the defending 4A champions.
In the game, junior running back Dimitri Velisaris shone, rushing for 166 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Velisaris carried the ball 26 times during the match, demonstrating his determination and skill on the field.
Coach Duke Johncour, who leads the undefeated team, is feeling confident heading into the next game against Hopewell. As the defending WPIAL 3A champions, Avonworth High School is determined to retain their title and go all the way this season, following their loss in the 3A state championship game last year.
Velisaris, who has been instrumental in the team's success, expresses a similar sentiment. "I'm going, and I can't be stopped," he says with confidence.
The game against Hopewell is scheduled to take place on Friday night, and Avonworth High School is hosting the match. So far this season, the team has been dominant, only allowing 21 points combined in their first three games.
Velisaris describes his strategy during plays, stating he looks for open gaps, potential additional defenders, and relies on his blockers to make moves and reach the endzone. The team's success is a testament to their hard work and teamwork, with each player playing their part to ensure victory.
The victory against Thomas Jefferson marked a significant moment for the team, as they demonstrated their ability to compete against top-tier opponents. Velisaris was surprised by the score of the game, stating "41 to 14 was not what I expected." Nevertheless, the team's confidence remains high, and they are looking forward to the challenge that Hopewell presents.
With their current form, Avonworth High School's football team is a force to be reckoned with in the WPIAL High School Football competition. Fans are eagerly awaiting the match against Hopewell, hoping to see the team extend their winning streak to five games.
