In the picturesque Wetterstein Mountains of Austria, a tragic incident occurred on August 18, 2025. A glider aircraft crashed near the Gehrenspitze summit in Leutasch, close to the Bavarian border, resulting in the death of a German pilot.

The glider took off from the Langkampfen airfield in Tyrol. The crash was witnessed by a hiker who promptly initiated the rescue operation. The recovery of the pilot’s body was completed on the same day, and the wreckage was removed by the evening of August 19.

Authorities have confirmed the pilot's death due to injuries sustained from the impact, with no preceding medical emergency detected. The pilot's identity has not been disclosed yet, as contact with his relatives is still ongoing.
