In a tragic turn of events, American singer-songwriter Brett James was confirmed dead in a plane crash that occurred in North Carolina on Thursday. The news was reported by FOX 17 and News Channel 5, among others.

Born on June 5, 1968, in Columbia, Missouri, James found his footing in the music industry in Nashville. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020, a moment he described as "the greatest honor of my life."

James was known for his work writing hits for other artists. Among his most notable contributions are Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel" and Kenny Chesney's "When the Sun Goes Down."

The small private plane in which James was a passenger crashed, and according to reports, there were no survivors. The exact location of the crash remains unknown.

The music industry mourns the loss of this talented artist. ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, wrote an Instagram post expressing their condolences, stating, "Brett, your ASCAP family misses you greatly. Thank you for your unforgettable music."

Singer Sara Evans, who worked closely with James, spoke out about his death on social media. She described him as one of the greatest songwriters she has ever worked with. Evans also expressed her condolences to James' family.

The cause of the plane crash has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing. Brett James, at the time of his death, was 57 years old. He released his debut album in 1995.

A moving performance of "Jesus Take the Wheel" was given by Carrie Underwood, Gordie Sampson, and Hillary Lindsey to honour James. The music community continues to remember and celebrate his life and legacy.
