Averino’s ‘Math Playground’ Opens as a Community-Driven Triumph
A new modern playground, dubbed the 'math playground' due to its educational features, has officially opened in Averino, a small village in Sysert Municipal District. The project was made possible through participatory budgeting, combining public funds, sponsor support, and donations from local residents. Its launch marks another success for community-led initiatives in the region, with news of the project spreading across Sverdlovsk Oblast. The idea for the playground came from two local activists, Kristina Pyankova and Irina Trofimova. Their proposal won a regional competition, securing the necessary backing. The pair had previously gained recognition in 2014 for transforming a neglected area in Averino into a vibrant community space, known as the 'Averino miracle,' using crowdfunding and volunteer work. The new 'math playground' is situated near the village’s House of Culture. Its opening was celebrated with an event for children, drawing families from across the area. Lyubov Plotnikova, head of the Southern Rural Administration, highlighted the project’s role in fostering a healthier environment for local youngsters. Further improvements are already planned, with organizers intending to level the surrounding area, plant trees, and add a sandbox to expand the playground’s facilities. The playground’s completion reflects a collaborative effort between authorities, sponsors, and residents. With additional upgrades on the way, the space is set to become a lasting asset for Averino’s children. The project also reinforces the village’s reputation for turning community-driven ideas into reality, with news of its success spreading across the region.
