Avangard focusing attacks on Pittsburgh's forward player

Omsk-based hockey club Avangard has expressed interest in signing 23-year-old forward Vasily Ponomarev, whose KHL rights are currently held by Moscow's Spartak. This information was shared by journalist Arthur Hayrullin on his Telegram channel.

Besides Avangard, SKA and Lokomotiv are also reported to be contenders for the forward. Ponomarev is set to become a restricted free agent in the NHL at the end of June 2025.

In the present season, Ponomarev has played seven games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, failing to register any points. In the AHL, playing for Pittsburgh's farm club, he has appeared in 57 games, scoring 41 points (15 goals plus 26 assists), including playoffs.

Previously, a forward from Moscow's Dynamo was reported to be on the verge of joining Omsk's Avangard.

Ponomarev's NHL team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, are his current employers, and he has been playing for their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. While other teams may potentially be interested in signing him, as of now, there are no specific reports beyond the named KHL teams.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it's advised to remain vigilant of hockey news outlets or official team announcements.
