Autumn Musical Performance by Orchestra Initiative Ingolstadt
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 5:00 PM, the Mirror Hall of the Kolpinghaus will echo with the melodies of Italian music as the Ingolstadt Orchestra Initiative hosts an enchanting concert.
The programme, dedicated to Italian music, promises a captivating journey through time, featuring both well-known and lesser-known classical works. Following the motto 'Breakthrough to new sounds', the amateur ensemble aims to present a diverse and engaging repertoire.
The concert will open with the sinfonia from Maria Grimani's 'Pallade e Marte', a musical dialogue for two voices and orchestra. Grimani, an Italian composer who worked at the Vienna court for a time, penned this work, creating a unique blend of vocal and orchestral music.
Next, the audience will be treated to George Frideric Handel's 'Concerto for Harp and String Orchestra in B-flat major'. This masterpiece of festive-baroque music, premiered on November 4, 1713, reflects Italian stylistic elements. Beate Fürbacher, a skilled harpist, will bring a special lyrical charm to the concerto.
The harp will also take centre stage in Antonio Vivaldi's 'D major concerto for guitar and string orchestra'. Vivaldi's concerto, known for its playfulness and pulsating vitality in the outer movements, and the calm radiance of a bright summer day in the slow middle movement, will be performed by Bernd Metzler on the guitar.
The concert will also feature Ottorino Respighi's 'Antiche danze ed arie per liuto', a series of suites that revive lute music from the 16th and 17th centuries. The suites, transcribed by Respighi into three orchestral suites, will transport listeners back to the rich musical traditions of the past.
The concert will conclude with a performance of Pietro Mascagni's 'Cavalleria rusticana', a powerful opera that tells a tale of jealousy with a fatal outcome. The sinfonische Intermezzo from Mascagni's opera, which depicts the peaceful singing of a congregation at the Easter Mass, will serve as a poignant finale to the evening.
Johanna Kurz will conduct the concert, leading the ensemble through this musical journey that promises to captivate and inspire. Join the Ingolstadt Orchestra Initiative on November 24 for an unforgettable evening of Italian music.
