New CEO Mathias Miedreich Tackles Obstacles at ZF and Division E

Mathias Miedreich, a seasoned business leader with a background in administration, is set to take over as CEO of ZF in Friedrichshafen on October 1, 2025. Miedreich, who previously led the battery recycler company Umicore until May 2024, has also held management positions at Faurecia, Continental, and Siemens.

Since January, Miedreich has been heading the powertrain division of ZF, a position he will continue to hold on an interim basis after becoming CEO. He is fully aware of the obstacles ahead for ZF and Division E, as the company is heavily indebted and is struggling with the delayed rollout of e-mobility. This struggle could potentially lead to up to 14,000 job cuts in Germany by the end of 2028.

In an interview with "Wirtschaftswoche," Miedreich expressed his plans to streamline ZF's portfolio and reduce costs. He aims to achieve this by reviewing production sites and considering the necessary steps for the company as difficult but essential. Miedreich also intends to reduce staff at ZF, but he wants to avoid dismissals if possible.

The supervisory board of ZF describes Miedreich as a board member with strong decision-making and communication skills. Rolf Breidenbach, the new supervisory board chairman of ZF, succeeding Hiesinger, shares this sentiment.

Miedreich emphasises the need for collaboration to restore ZF and Division E to their former strength. He believes that by working together, they can navigate the obstacles ahead and secure a bright future for the company.

Meanwhile, Forvia, a separate entity, has undergone a change in CEO. The powertrain division, under Miedreich's leadership, remains at the centre of the restructuring efforts at ZF.
